ZIP code 92316 has nine schools—five elementary, two middle and two high schools—all in Colton Joint Unified, serving students from elementary through high school. In 2025–26, the unweighted average across schools was 32% in ELA, 20% in math and 19% in science, compared with state results of 49%, 38% and 36%. The school averages were 17, 18 and 17 percentage points below the state, respectively, making math the area’s widest average shortfall and its clearest academic concern.

Ruth Grimes Elementary led all-grade ELA and math, with 49% and 32%; Crestmore Elementary led science at 34%. The lowest all-grade results were at Slover Mountain High (Continuation): 8% ELA, 4% math and 3% science—42, 34 and 33 points below state results. Grade-level results reveal additional strengths: Ruth Grimes exceeded the state in grade 5 and grade 6 ELA by 4 and 6 points, while Crestmore was 3 points above state in grade 3 ELA. Average results improved from 2024–25 to 2025–26 by 1 point in ELA, less than 1 point in math and 2 points in science; the state gained less than 1 point, 1 point and 3 points, respectively. Changes varied by school: Mary B. Lewis Elementary gained 13 points in science, while Ruth Grimes fell 8 points in math and Bloomington fell 10 points in ELA.
