Summary:

Zip code 90723 has 14 schools in Paramount Unified: nine elementary schools, four middle schools, and one high school. In 2025–2026, elementary schools averaged 37% in ELA, 33% in math, and 23% in science; middle schools averaged 42%, 24%, and 27%, respectively. Paramount High averaged 54% in ELA, 19% in math, and 24% in science. Statewide all-grades results were 49% in ELA, 38% in math, and 36% in science. The clearest overall takeaway is that most school-level averages were below state results, though performance varies considerably among schools.

Several schools stand out by subject. Jefferson Elementary led elementary math at 43%, 5 points above the state figure; its fourth-grade math result was especially strong at 58%, 16 points above the grade-level state result. Wesley Gaines had the top elementary ELA result at 44%, while Los Cerritos led elementary science at 35%, just 1 point below the state. Among middle schools, Alondra Middle led in ELA at 46% and science at 33%. At the lower end, Theodore Roosevelt had the lowest elementary ELA result at 30%, Harry Wirtz Elementary the lowest elementary math result at 26%, and Major Lynn Mokler the lowest elementary science result at 13%.

Recent changes are mixed: from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, the average ELA result across the 14 schools fell by 3 points, math rose by 1 point, and science rose by 1 point—less than the state’s 3-point science increase. SchoolDigger rankings also tell different stories: Los Cerritos climbed from the 28th to the 52nd percentile over three years, while Gaines fell from the 59th to the 45th; Alondra ranked in the 48th percentile in 2025–2026. At Paramount High, the 94% graduation rate was 6 points above the state, but 11th-grade math was 19%, 13 points below the grade-matched state result, and chronic absenteeism was 22%, above the state’s 18%. Reported free/reduced lunch eligible figures for 2024–2025 ranged from 91% at Mark Keppel to 98% at Los Cerritos; elementary student-teacher ratios ranged from 19.2 to 23.6. These are useful context, not explanations for test results.
