Summary:

Zip code 90713 has four schools in Cleveland Elementary, Gompers, MacArthur Elementary, and Lakewood High: three serve grades K–5, and one serves grades 9–12. In 2025–2026, the elementary schools averaged 63% proficiency in English language arts (ELA), 59% in math, and 57% in science, compared with state figures of 49%, 38%, and 36%. The key area-wide pattern is that elementary results are strong on average, while Lakewood High’s math and science results are far below the state.

Cleveland Elementary led the elementary schools in ELA (74%) and math (68%), about 25 and 30 percentage points above state results. MacArthur Elementary led in science at 63%, 2 points above Cleveland. Gompers was lowest among the elementary schools in all three subjects, with 48% in ELA, 51% in math, and 48% in science; its math and science results were still above state figures. Lakewood High had 14% proficiency in math and 17% in science, 24 and 19 points below the state, while its 49% ELA result was essentially level with the state.

Science improved at all four schools from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, rising by 2 points at Lakewood, 10 at Cleveland, 25 at Gompers, and 19 at MacArthur. ELA declined at every school; math fell at three, while Gompers rose 3 points. SchoolDigger’s three-year percentile ranking rose from 60 to 67 at Gompers and 77 to 81 at MacArthur, but fell from 97 to 90 at Cleveland and 46 to 40 at Lakewood. As context, the elementary schools’ reported free/reduced lunch eligible figures for sy 2024–2025 were 29% at Cleveland, 47% at Gompers, and 48% at MacArthur; Gompers and MacArthur had similar figures but different achievement results. Student-teacher ratios were 26.4 at Cleveland, 25.2 at Gompers, and 20.9 at MacArthur (sy 2024–2025), while 2025–2026 chronic absenteeism ranged from 17% at Cleveland to 26% at MacArthur.
