Zip code 90713 has three K–5 elementary schools—Cleveland Elementary, Gompers and MacArthur Elementary—in Long Beach Unified; in 2025–2026, their average proficiency was above the state in English, math and science, with the strongest lead in science at 21 percentage points.

Cleveland Elementary led in English and math, with 74% proficient in English and 68% in math—about 18 and 14 points above the average of the other two schools. MacArthur Elementary led science at 63%, just 2 points above Cleveland’s 61%. Gompers had the lowest all-grades result in each subject, trailing the other two schools’ average by 23 points in English, 12 in math and 14 in science. Its English score was about 2 points below the state, however, while its math and science scores were each 12 points above it.

As context, the schools’ 2024–2025 free/reduced lunch eligible shares were 29% at Cleveland, 47% at Gompers and 48% at MacArthur; student-teacher ratios ranged from 20.9 at MacArthur to 26.4 at Cleveland. Gompers’ 5th-grade English result was 60%, above the state’s 49%, showing that a schoolwide figure can miss a grade-level strength. Test-score comparisons cover two years, so they do not establish a longer-term trend.
