Summary:

Cerritos has 17 schools—9 elementary, 3 middle and 5 high schools—in the ABC Unified district; 16 have 2025–2026 test results, while ABC Secondary (Alternative) has no supplied scores. The schools’ unweighted averages were 69% proficient in ELA, 58% in math and 53% in science, compared with California averages of 49%, 38% and 36%. But the scores vary widely from school to school: the highest-to-lowest spreads were 84 points in ELA, 96 in math and 92 in science. The central takeaway is that a strong overall average does not describe what families will find at every Cerritos school.

Whitney (Gretchen) High is the clear leader, with 99% proficient in both ELA and math and 98% in science; it also leads other high schools in 11th-grade results. Among elementary schools, Leal Elementary leads ELA and math, at 86% in each, while Wittmann Elementary leads science at 80%. At the other end, Tracy (Wilbur) High (Continuation) has the lowest results in all three subjects—15% in ELA, 3% in math and 5% in science—and is 34 to 36 points below the state in ELA and math. Juarez Elementary is the lowest-scoring school outside Tracy, with 41% in ELA, 29% in math and 32% in science.

Recent results show mixed progress: the 16-school averages fell by 3 points in ELA, 1 point in math and 1 point in science from 2024–2025, while state averages rose in all three subjects. Gahr (Richard) High, Tetzlaff Middle and Haskell Middle improved in all three subjects, showing that the overall declines were not universal. SchoolDigger ranks Whitney 4th among 2,137 California schools, Leal 52nd among 5,804 elementary schools and Carmenita Middle 148th among 2,703 middle schools. The reported low-income measure is free/reduced lunch eligible for 2024–2025: Juarez reports 73%, compared with 35% at Leal, alongside their differing results; this is context, not an explanation of those results. Because schools serve different grade spans, citywide comparisons are useful context rather than perfectly like-for-like comparisons.
