Summary

Alamo Elementary is a K-6 public school serving 714 students in the Vacaville Unified School District, performing solidly in the middle of California schools while serving a student population where over half qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.

Academically, Alamo's test scores in English and Math are close to the state average, but the school stands out for its strong mathematics performance compared to the district average and for managing student attendance very well, with a chronic absenteeism rate lower than most nearby schools like Hemlock Elementary and Eugene Padan Elementary. The school achieves these outcomes while spending less per student than some peers, suggesting efficient use of resources. However, there is a noted concern as the school's statewide ranking has declined over the past few years, coinciding with an increase in students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

When compared to other schools, Alamo performs better than several in the area with similar or higher poverty rates, such as Edwin Markham Elementary, but trails higher-performing schools like Browns Valley Elementary. The school shows notable performance differences between student groups and a significant drop in math scores in 5th grade, which are key areas for focus. Its recovery in student attendance post-pandemic has been strong, though academic scores have not fully bounced back to previous levels.

Open Quote Very nice school. I have a 2nd and 3rd grader there; the teachers really care a lot about the students. I think it is great family oriented place for my children to learn. My only suggestion would be for them to devise a method for me to pay for school lunches over the Internet. This would be much more convenient then writing checks or worrying about kids with cash.
