Summary

Twila Reid Elementary is a K-6 public school serving about 490 students in Anaheim, part of the Savanna Elementary district, which is generally well-regarded in the state.

Academically, the school shows notable strengths in supporting specific student groups, with its English Language Learners and students from lower-income families performing well above state averages. In core subjects, its math (40.88%) and science (34.29%) proficiency rates are above the California average, though English Language Arts (44.78%) is slightly below. The school has made impressive progress in improving student attendance, reducing chronic absenteeism to 17.3%, which is now better than the state average. However, performance varies significantly by grade level, with strong results in some grades (like 3rd-grade math and 5th-grade ELA) and weaker results in others, indicating a focus area for consistency.

Compared to nearby schools, Twila Reid holds a solid middle position. It academically outperforms schools like Centralia Elementary and Mattie Lou Maxwell but trails higher performers like Holder Elementary and Dr. Albert Schweitzer Leadership Academy. An interesting finding is a consistent performance gap where male students outperform female students, which the school may wish to explore. While per-student spending ($19,244) is mid-range for the area, the school demonstrates that higher spending doesn't always guarantee better results, as seen when comparing its outcomes to the much higher-spending Lord Baden-Powell.

Open Quote I had a pretty good time at Twila Reid during my six and a half years being there. The only low point of my time there was the principal who kicked me out of the school in forth grade for living out of district but failed to acknowledge my high academic success there, the other students who lived out of district, and all my time there. Although I returned the following year, it was still difficult and my relationship was rather strained with Dr. Pipes after that. I can't say I was sad to see him retire, the new principal is good and nice( my little brother goes to Reid now). Twila Reid was good however because one of the teachers there, Ms. Knowles, is the reason for my academic success now and is just one of the many outstanding teachers at Twila Reid. If your child is struggling with school or behavioral issues, don't enroll them here, they'll only continue to struggle and fall behind. I recommend any school in Cypress. Hope this helped. Shoutout to my class of 2020 Close Quote
