Summary

America’s Finest Charter is an alternative K–12 school with 461 students in San Diego, part of San Diego Unified. Its 2025–2026 proficiency results were low in every reported subject: 19% in English Language Arts (ELA), 10% in math, and 8% in science. These were below both state results—49%, 38%, and 36%—and district results—54%, 46%, and 42%, respectively. Low proficiency across all three subjects is the school’s most important concern for families considering its academic performance.

Compared with nearby alternative schools with same-year results, ELA is a relative bright spot: the school’s 18.7% was nearly equal to the nearby-school average of 18.6%, ranking fourth of six schools. Math was below the peer average, at 10% versus 13%, and also ranked fourth of six. Science was 8% versus a nearby-school average of 12%, ranking third of five schools with results. Although science is the least far behind the state and district, it remains low. Results also vary by grade: eighth-grade proficiency was 6% in ELA and 0% in math, while third grade had the school’s highest reported ELA and math results, both 28%.

Graduation improved: the rate rose from 84% in 2024–2025 to 91% in 2025–2026, a 7-point increase, moving from 3 points below the state rate to 3 points above it; it was still 1 point below the district. Other indicators raise concerns: chronic absenteeism was 39%, compared with 18% statewide and 17% districtwide, and the 9% dropout rate remained 1 point above the state. The school reported 78% free/reduced lunch eligible and a student-teacher ratio of 18.8 in 2017–2018; SchoolDigger’s reported rank and stars are for the district, not this school. Test-score trends cannot be determined because earlier-year school scores were not provided, and the older income and ratio figures are not directly comparable with nearby schools’ newer data.
