Urban Discovery Academy Charter is an alternative K–12 school in San Diego serving 330 students. Its 2024–2025 all-grades proficiency rates were below California’s in English language arts (ELA), math and science, but above the averages for nearby schools with reported scores. Attendance is a major concern: 42% of students were chronically absent, compared with 19% statewide.

Compared with nearby schools, Urban Discovery was above the local average in all three tested subjects: 28% were proficient in ELA, 16% in math and 21% in science, about 8, 4 and 8 percentage points above the respective nearby-school averages. It ranked third of eight schools with scores in each subject. The school still trailed the state by 21 points in ELA and 21 in math; its science gap was 12 points. One standout is 11th-grade ELA, where 64% were proficient, compared with 57% statewide; that result fell between The O'Farrell Charter at 70% and America's Finest Charter at 41%. Results over time are mixed: ELA proficiency rose from 25% in 2023–2024 to 28% in 2024–2025, while math was nearly unchanged over the three years shown, from 16% in 2022–2023 to 16% in 2024–2025. Chronic absenteeism improved to 33% in 2023–2024, then climbed to 42%. The 2024–2025 student–teacher ratio was 18.8, the second-highest among 11 nearby schools; 64% of students were reported as free/reduced lunch eligible for 2024–2025.
