Summary

Quail Valley Elementary is a public K-5 school serving about 500 students in the Palmdale Elementary School District, operating in a high-need community where the vast majority of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.

Academically, the school faces significant challenges, consistently ranking in the bottom fifth of all California elementary schools, though it has shown recent improvement from a 0-star to a 1-star rating. Its performance is mixed compared to nearby schools: its math scores are actually stronger than the district average and competitive with or better than several neighbors like Mesquite Elementary and Golden Poppy Elementary, but its English scores lag slightly behind the district. The school also does a better job than many area schools at ensuring students attend regularly, with a lower chronic absenteeism rate than the district and schools like Buena Vista Elementary.

Interesting patterns emerge when looking at the local landscape; the area contains schools at both performance extremes, from very high-performing Barrel Springs Elementary to historically low-performing alternative schools, with Quail Valley sitting in the middle. The school shows an unusual trend where math proficiency drops sharply in upper grades while English improves. While challenges remain, particularly for English Learners and students in special education, Quail Valley's recent upward trajectory in ranking and its relative strengths in math and attendance suggest it is a school showing signs of positive momentum within a difficult context.

Open Quote well i just moved to palmdale i bought a house close to this school because i wanted my kids to walk to and from school. we had to drive in our former schools, wich is why i chosed this area it seem perfect, but when i when to enroll my son to the Palmdale district, i learn that he did not belong to Quail Valley elemenary. I was very upset, becuase our home is just across the street from the school. the school that my son was sent to is almost 2 miles away, Im a single mom and i have to work and i wont be able to take him or pick him up because the school hrs are from 9-1. I will be force to sell my home and move back to the Valley. this is not fair at all.
