Summary

Jefferson Middle serves grades 6–8 and enrolls 441 students in Oceanside, California, in Oceanside Unified. Among the 11 middle schools compared in the surrounding area, Jefferson had the lowest 2025–2026 proficiency in English language arts, math and science: 25%, 13% and 16%, respectively. The most important finding is that Jefferson’s test proficiency is lowest among nearby schools in all three subjects.

Chronic absenteeism also improved, falling from 49% in 2021–2022 to 29% in 2025–2026, but remained above the district and state rates and higher than any nearby school; Lincoln Middle was next highest at 26%. SchoolDigger ranked Jefferson at the 11th percentile with 1 star in 2025–2026, lowest among nearby schools; its ranking rose from the 8th percentile the prior year. Jefferson’s 18.5 students per teacher in 2024–2025 was the second-lowest ratio among nearby schools. Its reported free/reduced lunch eligible rate was 93% in 2024–2025, the highest among nearby schools reporting the same measure and year; Cesar Chavez Middle was next at 80%.
