Summary

Lemon Crest Elementary is a K-5 public school serving 437 students in the Lakeside Union Elementary district, which has seen a notable decline in its statewide academic ranking over the past several years.

Academically, the school faces significant challenges, with student proficiency in English, Math, and Science falling well below both district and state averages. A major concern is the high rate of chronic student absenteeism, at 27.2%, which is substantially higher than most neighboring schools and is strongly correlated with lower academic performance across the district. For instance, within the same district, Riverview Elementary has an absenteeism rate of only 8.0% and achieves much higher test scores, demonstrating that better outcomes are possible in the area.

While Lemon Crest serves a student population with significant economic needs, its per-student spending is higher than some higher-performing schools like Riverview, suggesting factors beyond funding are at play. The school has shown relative strength in supporting its special education students. To improve, the school could prioritize reducing absenteeism and learning from successful practices at nearby schools like Riverview Elementary and Lakeview Elementary within the Lakeside Union Elementary district.

Open Quote Teacher grabbed my kid and didn't like it when my kid fought back. As far as I'm concerned, teacher should have been hit harder. Don't lay a hand on a student just to reinforce your fragile ego and authority complex. Close Quote
