Casa de Oro Elementary is a K–5 school with 320 students in Spring Valley, in the La Mesa-Spring Valley district. In 2025–26, 38% of students were proficient in ELA, 29% in math, and 23% in science. Chronic absenteeism was also high: 29%, compared with 18% in both the district and California. The most important finding is that achievement is low across all three subjects, not just one: the school ranked second-lowest among eight nearby K–5 schools in each subject.

The 2024–25 student-teacher ratio was 24.6, below the nearby-school average of 25.6. Also for 2024–25, 74% of students were free/reduced lunch eligible, compared with a 70% nearby-school average; these figures provide context, not an explanation for achievement.
