Rio Vista Middle is a public school serving 851 students in grades 7–8 in Fresno’s Central Unified. In 2025–26, about 50% of students were proficient in English language arts (ELA), 37% in math and 29% in science. The school outperformed its district in all three subjects, but recent declines in test results and rising chronic absenteeism are the most important concerns for families to weigh.

Compared with nearby schools, Rio Vista’s math results are a consistent strength: its seventh- and eighth-grade proficiency rates were about 8 and 6 percentage points above nearby-school averages. Seventh-grade ELA also stood out, at 11 points above the nearby average; eighth-grade ELA was close to that average and 5 points below the state rate. Overall, Rio Vista was ahead of the district by 5 points in ELA, 6 in math and 3 in science. Its ELA rate was essentially level with the state, while math was 1 point lower and science 7 points lower.
