Summary

Anderson Middle is a public middle school serving 341 students in grades 6-8 in Anderson, CA, operating within the Cascade Union Elementary district, and it faces significant academic challenges with performance below state averages and a recent decline in its statewide ranking.

The school's academic results are lower than many nearby schools, with only 30% of students proficient in English and 22% in math, compared to schools like Evergreen Middle (50% ELA) and Berrendos Middle (46% ELA). A major concern is chronic absenteeism, with nearly 23% of students missing significant school time, a rate much higher than at Berrendos Middle (6%). Despite spending more per student ($21,320) than most comparison schools, these resources have not translated into stronger outcomes, creating a notable performance gap compared to its peers.

However, the analysis shows that improvement is possible, as other schools with similar high-need student populations, such as Parsons Junior High and Sequoia Middle, achieve better academic results. Key areas for the school to address include reducing student absences, strengthening foundational skills in the early middle school grades, and learning from the successful strategies implemented at these higher-performing nearby schools.

Open Quote The assistant principal just called me and yelled at me because my daughter couldn't get the tape off her camera to show herself on zoom. Apparently he thought he could treat me like one of his students and get tough with me. Im not a child. Im an adult. Wish I could say the same about the people who work at this school. He said they will not tolerate her behavior anymore and the superintendent has his back? Not sure why that was stated unless to deter me from going to the board, which I intend to do. I am appalled by the way they handled this. I have heard nothing but how terrible this school is and now i know first hand.. All of this because of tape over her camera. Bullies! Close Quote
