ZIP code 96080 has 15 schools: seven elementary, three middle, three high and two alternative schools, with programs spanning elementary grades through high school. In 2025–2026, the unweighted school averages were 31% in ELA, 22% in math and 25% in science, compared with state rates of 49%, 38% and 36%. These all-grades averages are broad descriptions; comparing schools serving the same grade gives parents a more useful picture. The central finding is that achievement varies sharply by grade and school, and the area’s average results are below state rates in all three subjects.

Lassen-Antelope Volcanic Academy (LAVA) stands out in middle grades: its seventh-grade ELA proficiency was 65%, 15 percentage points above the state rate, and its sixth-grade math was 41%, 4 points above state. Antelope Elementary led listed K–5 schools in fourth-grade ELA at 39% and math at 42%, just 1 point below the state math rate. By contrast, Red Bluff High had a 96% graduation rate, 8 points above state.

Across schools with two years of results, average proficiency fell by 2 points in ELA, 1 in math and 1 in science, while state rates rose by about 0, 1 and 3 points, respectively. There are notable exceptions: LAVA gained 11 points in ELA and 8 in math, while Reeds Creek Elementary gained 4 points in ELA and 5 in math.
