Evergreen Middle serves 399 students in grades 5–8 in Cottonwood, California. Its 2025–2026 all-grades results were above California’s proficiency rates in English language arts (ELA), math, and science. Most importantly, Evergreen was the nearby-school leader in ELA and math and exceeded the state in all three subjects.

Evergreen’s strongest local results were in ELA and math: it scored 55% in ELA and 45% in math, compared with nearby-school averages of 41% and 29%. The next-highest nearby ELA score was 51% at Lassen-Antelope Volcanic Academy (LAVA); in math, Berrendos Middle was next at 39%. Unfortunately it seems that Evergreen focuses too much on test scores and not enough about real world teaching. It is the educators job to find what motivates each child to learn, to protect the child while at school, and to alert the parents if there is a problem. For the past two years my child has had grades lowered due to incomplete record keeping and an unreliable online reporting system. They do not keep parents properly informed about how the child is doing. The response was "we don't have enough time". My child has been physically asaulted twice and nothing has been done. We have met with the teachers and Principal and were basically told there is nothing that can be done and that it mostly falls on us as parents. My question is if we have to do your job WHAT ARE WE PAYING YOU FOR? We have a meeting with the Superintendant tomorrow, but barring a major miracle I feel that Evergreen School has really let our child down. Close Quote
