Summary

Ocala Middle is a 377-student school in San Jose, California, serving grades 6–8. In 2025–26, 33% of students met proficiency in English language arts (ELA), 17% in math and 26% in science. The most important concern is sixth-grade math: just 6% of sixth-graders met proficiency, compared with 23% in seventh grade and 21% in eighth.

Math is also the school’s weakest subject compared with nearby schools, while science is a relative bright spot. Among six nearby schools with all-grade results, Ocala ranked sixth in math, with 17% proficiency versus a 34% nearby average; it was fifth in ELA (33% versus 46%) and fourth in science (26% versus 32%). Compared with the Alum Rock Union Elementary district, Ocala was 2 percentage points higher in ELA and 4 points higher in science, but 5 points lower in math.
