Franklin-McKinley Elementary has 13 schools—10 elementary and three middle schools—serving grades K–8 and enrolling 4,606 students. Across the schools, average 2025–26 proficiency was 35% in ELA, 29% in math, and 22% in science, compared with state averages of 49%, 38%, and 36%. The clearest overall finding is that outcomes vary sharply from school to school, while the area averages remain below the state in all three subjects.
College Connection Academy leads the group, with 80% proficient in ELA, 69% in math, and 59% in science—about 49, 43, and 40 percentage points above the averages at the other 12 schools. Its results are also 30, 31, and 23 points above the state. At the other end, Lairon College Preparatory Academy has the lowest results in every subject: 15% in ELA, 8% in math, and 3% in science. Shirakawa (George Senior) Elementary is the strongest of the other 12 schools, at 49% in ELA, 39% in math, and 41% in science. The gap between College Connection and Lairon is 64 points in ELA, 61 in math, and 55 in science. Same-grade results show a similarly wide middle-school contrast: in seventh grade, College Connection leads Bridges Academy by 64 points in ELA and 55 in math.
Average results improved from 2024–25 to 2025–26, especially in math: the 13-school average rose 3 points in math and 1 point in ELA, while the 12 schools with both years of science results rose 3 points. School-level changes were mixed: Jeanne R. Meadows Elementary gained 10 points in ELA and 9 in math, while Lairon fell 8 points in ELA. SchoolDigger ranks College Connection in the 94th statewide percentile and Lairon in the 2nd. Low-income figures are context, not an explanation: all schools report free/reduced lunch eligible for 2024–25; College Connection is at 65% and Shirakawa and Lairon are at 83% and 82%, respectively, despite their very different scores. Since schools serve different grade spans, same-grade comparisons can be more useful than school-wide results.
