Open Quote Elementary is really good. We were really nervous because we’d never hear good things about the upper grades and that turned out to be true. Part of it is the weird grouping of ages (K-4j and (5-7) that makes it feel like a revolving culture and the other part is who leaves— it is like the people who can get on the opportunity train do so really undercutting the whole inclusive/ diversity message. Selma has never had a strong leader, has more high needs kids every year, school is fun but SO easy and not at all grade level even compared to the lousy local district schools. They change policies ALL the time like we do academic honors but not this year and next year we do have them but only these grades and we aren’t telling which. Or totally not use volunteers but let things look like crap like the exterior of the school (I personally know four people who offered to transform the school) instead it is same ugliness. Or someone Volunteer builds the library and won’t let kids use it. It is just since an inept place and I guarantee you have you have any clue you aren’t going to tolerate it. Close Quote

Open Quote The elementary schools are very good, but are less academic than before. Lots of enrichments, decent class size, good libraries/music/art/gardening etc. five stars

But it all goes wrong at the Selma campus which is really unimpressive. Weak teachers, never had a decent administrator and the turnover is outrageous. Bad tempered office step, no control over teachers. Fully half of kids leave between the end of 4th and 7th. And it is the best students, stable families, wealthier people, etc because the academics are such edutainment. There is a heavy fundraising component which was fine when the school was good and then you realize the elementary schools fund the entire program including the lousy high school. Massive gender imbalance. Totally opposed to gifted testing or honors testing. Do not believe ANYthing LCS says about “differentiation” one star Close Quote

About Student-Teacher Ratio
Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
