Summary:

Zip code 90008 has seven schools: four elementary, one middle, one high school and one alternative school. The latest results are mostly for 2025–2026; New Heights Charter has results from 2024–2025. Among the three current-year K–5 schools, average proficiency was 31% in English, 28% in math and 22% in science, below the supplied state All Grades figures in each subject. The clearest positive exception is Iovine and Young Center, whose 11th graders scored well above state results in all three tested subjects.

Tom Bradley Global Awareness Magnet leads the K–5 group in English (46%) and math (34%); Forty-Second Street Elementary leads in science (27%). Even these local highs are 4, 4 and 9 percentage points below the respective state benchmarks. Iovine’s 11th-grade results are 86% in English, 64% in math and 68% in science—29, 32 and 30 points above state results. At the other end, Marlton recorded 8% in fifth-grade English and 0% in both math and science; its English result is 41 points below the state fifth-grade figure. Audubon Middle is below state All Grades results in all three subjects, by 13 points in English, 20 in math and 19 in science. New Heights’ 2024–2025 seventh-grade English and math results were also well above state figures.

Across the three K–5 schools, average science proficiency rose 9 points from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, while English and math each fell about 1 point; the science gap to the state narrowed by 6 points, but remained 14 points. SchoolDigger rankings improved over the years shown for Hillcrest, Audubon and Forty-Second Street, while Tom Bradley was nearly unchanged. Other context does not form a simple pattern: 2024–2025 free/reduced lunch eligible figures ranged from 78% at Iovine to 97% at Hillcrest Drive Elementary, and student–teacher ratios ranged from 8.2 at Iovine to 23.3 at Tom Bradley. These are context, not explanations of results; New Heights has no 2025–2026 results supplied, and some grade-level scores are suppressed, meaning unknown rather than zero.
