Summary:

San Ramon Valley Unified includes 36 schools—22 elementary, 8 middle and 6 high schools, including two small alternative high schools—in the San Ramon Valley area. In 2025–2026, average proficiency was above state rates in every grade span and subject: elementary averages were 78% in ELA, 79% in math and 64% in science; middle averages were 82%, 74% and 70%; and comprehensive high-school averages were 83%, 66% and 64%. The key takeaway is that strong group averages do not mean results are equally strong at every school: school-to-school gaps reach 36 points.

Several schools lead across subjects, while the lowest results vary by grade span. Windemere Ranch Middle leads middle schools in ELA, math and science, at 87%, 82% and 84%; Stone Valley Middle is lowest in all three, at 75%, 62% and 51%. Among comprehensive high schools, Dougherty Valley High leads at 90%, 80% and 72%, while San Ramon Valley High has the lowest math and science results, at 52% and 49%. Elementary leaders differ: Alamo Elementary leads ELA at 90% but has the lowest science score, 47%; John Baldwin Elementary leads math at 90% and science at 83%.

Recent changes also differ by subject and school. From 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, comprehensive high-school averages rose 9 points in science, compared with a 3-point state increase; middle-school science rose 6 points, while the elementary average fell 2 points. California High made notable gains—10 points in ELA and 19 in science—and its SchoolDigger percentile rose from 91st to 98th. SchoolDigger ranks Windemere Ranch Middle 25th of 2,703 middle schools and John Baldwin Elementary 71st of 5,804 elementary schools. For context, 2024–2025 free/reduced lunch eligible rates ranged from 3% at John Baldwin to 18% at Quail Run Elementary; these are school characteristics, not explanations for test results. Two years of scores show recent movement, not a long-term trend.
