Vista Grande Elementary

Summary:

Vista Grande Elementary is a public elementary school in Danville, California, serving 543 students from kindergarten to 5th grade as part of the San Ramon Valley Unified school district, which is ranked 69 out of 1,560 districts in the state.

Vista Grande Elementary is a standout institution, consistently maintaining a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger and ranking among the top elementary schools in California. The school's academic performance is exceptional, with students significantly outperforming the state average in Smarter Balanced Assessments for English Language Arts/Literacy and Mathematics. Notably, Vista Grande's 5th-grade students achieved particularly high proficiency rates, with 78.82% proficient or better in ELA and 68.24% in Mathematics. The school's student subgroups, such as female students, Hispanic students, and students with disabilities, also consistently rank among the top in the state, demonstrating the school's ability to support the academic success of diverse learners.

Compared to other nearby elementary schools in the San Ramon Valley Unified district, such as Golden View Elementary, Alamo Elementary, and Twin Creeks Elementary, Vista Grande Elementary generally outperforms its peers in academic assessments and maintains a strong ranking within the state. However, the school's low percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch may indicate that it serves a relatively affluent community, which could raise concerns about equity and access to educational opportunities for students from lower-income families in the area.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I have 2 students at Vista Grande. The school and admin are competent. Most teachers are good, with a few exceptions. Turnover rate is better than most schools I believe. Parent involvement is rather high, with a lot of fund raising to support teacher's assistants. Friendly welcoming community mostly. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
