Summary

Vista Grande Elementary is a highly-rated K-5 public school serving 544 students in the affluent community of Danville, within the top-performing San Ramon Valley Unified school district.

The school consistently earns top marks, ranking in the 91st percentile statewide for the 2024-2025 year, with strong test scores in English, Math, and Science that are well above state averages. A standout strength is its exceptional support for special education students, ranking in the 96th-99th percentile statewide for this group—a significant differentiator that outperforms all nearby schools. The school also maintains a very low chronic absenteeism rate of 5.5%, which is better than most peers and contributes to a stable learning environment.

When compared to other high-achieving schools in the area like Bollinger Canyon Elementary and Sycamore Valley Elementary, Vista Grande's overall academic proficiency is solid but places it in the middle of this competitive pack. Interestingly, the school achieves these results with relatively efficient spending and a higher student-teacher ratio than some neighbors. Parents may want to note a recent slight dip in the school's statewide ranking and that 5th-grade math scores are lower than in earlier grades, which the school is likely addressing.

Open Quote I have 2 students at Vista Grande. The school and admin are competent. Most teachers are good, with a few exceptions. Turnover rate is better than most schools I believe. Parent involvement is rather high, with a lot of fund raising to support teacher's assistants. Friendly welcoming community mostly. Close Quote
