Summary:
The 15 elementary schools in Salinas City Elementary serve kindergarten through grade 6. Across the schools, average 2025–26 proficiency was 30% in English language arts (ELA), 23% in math, and 18% in science, compared with state rates of 49%, 38%, and 36%. Results vary widely from school to school, so the most important finding is that a few schools stand well above the group while others are far below it.
Lincoln Elementary is the strongest all-around performer: it led the group in ELA at 50% and math at 47%, and its science rate was 38%. Boronda Elementary led science at 47%—11 percentage points above the state—and was close behind Lincoln in ELA at 49%. By contrast, Loma Vista Elementary had the group’s lowest results in all three subjects: 12% in ELA, 11% in math, and 9% in science. These differences are substantial: Lincoln’s math rate was 36 percentage points higher than Loma Vista’s.
Group averages rose from 2024–25 to 2025–26 in all three subjects, by 4 percentage points in ELA, 1 point in math, and 3 points in science, but individual schools followed different paths. Boronda gained 18 points in ELA and 22 in science; Mission Park Elementary’s science result fell 19 points. SchoolDigger’s 2025–26 statewide rankings also put Lincoln at the 64th percentile and Boronda at the 59th; Boronda rose from the 35th percentile in 2023–24. As context, free/reduced lunch eligible figures for school year 2024–2025 ranged from 28% at Lincoln to 90% at Sherwood Elementary; that measure alone does not explain school results. Salinas City STEAM Academy is another point of comparison: despite enrollment of 99 and a 24.7 student–teacher ratio, it scored above the group averages in all three subjects.
