Summary:

Alisal Union includes 12 elementary schools, all serving kindergarten through grade 6. In 2025–26, the schools’ average proficiency was 32% in English language arts, 23% in math and 18% in science, compared with California averages of 49%, 38% and 36%. The main takeaway is that results vary considerably from school to school, while the group averages remain below the state in all three subjects.

Monte Bella Elementary stands out at the top, leading all three subjects with 41% in ELA, 38% in math and 23% in science. Even so, its results were 8 percentage points below the state in ELA, 1 point below in math and 13 points below in science. Fremont Elementary was lowest in every subject: 22% in ELA, 11% in math and 10% in science. The gap between the top and bottom schools was 19 points in ELA, 26 in math and 14 in science. Grade-level results add another bright spot: Virginia Rocca Barton Elementary reached 56% in grade-3 math, 9 points above the state result for that grade.

Group averages rose from 2024–25 to 2025–26 by 3 points in ELA, 1 in math and 2 in science, but the science gap to the state widened by 1 point. Individual trends differed: Alisal Community fell in all three subjects, and its SchoolDigger statewide percentile ranking dropped from 41st to 26th between 2023–24 and 2025–26; Monte Bella rose in all three subjects and moved from 37th to 47th. For context, all schools reported free/reduced lunch eligible figures for 2024–25, ranging from 76% at Creekside Elementary to 98% at Jesse G. Sanchez Elementary; these figures do not form a simple performance pattern. Student-teacher ratios also varied, from 21.6 at Dr. Oscar F. Loya Elementary to 26.6 at Bardin Elementary.
