Summary:

The Los Gatos-Saratoga Union High district includes two high schools, both serving grades 9–12. In 2025–2026, their unweighted average proficiency was 84% in English language arts, 73% in math, and 67% in science, compared with 49%, 38%, and 36% statewide. Both schools are above state results, but the most important difference for families is that reported proficiency is consistently higher at Saratoga, especially in math.

Saratoga High stands out as the district’s top scorer in all three subjects, with 90% proficiency in English language arts, 85% in math, and 74% in science. Los Gatos High scored 77%, 61%, and 61%, respectively, putting it below Saratoga by 13 percentage points in English language arts, 24 points in math, and 13 points in science. Los Gatos still exceeded state results by 28 points in English language arts, 22 in math, and 25 in science; Saratoga’s leads over the state were 41, 47, and 38 points. Graduation rates were similarly high at both schools: 97.0% at Los Gatos and 97.2% at Saratoga, compared with 88% statewide.

Recent trends widen the distinction: from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, Saratoga improved by 4 points in English language arts, 6 in math, and 9 in science, while Los Gatos declined by 5 points in English language arts, was essentially unchanged in math, and gained 4 points in science. SchoolDigger rankings also moved in different directions: Los Gatos fell 75 places, from 81st to 156th, while Saratoga rose 14 places, from 42nd to 28th. As context, in 2024–2025 Saratoga had a lower student-teacher ratio (19:1 versus 20.9:1) and lower free/reduced lunch eligibility (4% versus 7%); these observations do not explain the score differences. The results describe just these two schools, and rankings and test scores are different measures.
