Summary:

Five high schools in Alvord Unified serve grades 9–12, ranging from 90 students to 1,804. Their 2025–2026 averages were below state proficiency in English language arts (ELA), math and science, but school results varied widely. The central finding is that Hillcrest High led all three subjects, while the two smallest schools had the weakest results and much higher chronic absenteeism.

Hillcrest High was the clear academic leader: 56% were proficient in ELA, 26% in math and 41% in science. It exceeded state results by 7 percentage points in ELA and 5 in science, though it was 12 points below in math. Norte Vista High and La Sierra High were just above the state in ELA, but below it in math and science. At the bottom, Mission View High had the lowest ELA (8%) and science (0%); it and Alvord High tied at 0% in math. Hillcrest’s ELA result was 48 points above Mission View’s. Chronic absenteeism was 70% at Mission View and 70% at Alvord, compared with 18% at Hillcrest.

From 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, the five-school science average rose by 3 points, but the state gained slightly more; the ELA average edged down and math improved less than the state. SchoolDigger ranked Hillcrest 795th of 2,137 statewide (63rd percentile, 3 stars), while Mission View ranked 2,103rd (2nd percentile, 0 stars). Hillcrest also had the highest student-teacher ratio, 23.8, while Alvord and Mission View had ratios of 13.8 and 13.9. All five schools reported free/reduced lunch eligible figures for 2024–2025; shares ranged from 76% at Hillcrest to 97% at Mission View. These figures offer context, not an explanation for differences in results.
