Summary

Pomeroy Elementary School is a public elementary school serving grades PK-6 in Chandler, Arizona, part of the Mesa Unified District. With 584 students, the school has seen its statewide ranking fluctuate over the past decade, ranging from 301 out of 1039 Arizona elementary schools in 2018-2019 to 608 out of 912 in 2023-2024.

Pomeroy Elementary's test scores are generally below the district and state averages across grade levels and subject areas. For example, in 2024-2025, the school's 5th grade science proficiency rate was 39% compared to 33% for the district and 34% for the state. The school also struggles with lower rankings for certain student subgroups, such as female, male, Asian, and White students. Additionally, Pomeroy Elementary has seen a significant increase in its free/reduced lunch rate, rising from 19.12% in 2021-2022 to 35.8% in 2022-2023, indicating a growing population of economically disadvantaged students.

When compared to nearby schools in the same district, such as Franklin Accelerated Academy - Jordan Campus and Summit Academy, Pomeroy Elementary lags behind in both test scores and overall statewide rankings. The school's declining performance, from a 4-star rating in 2018-2019 to a 2-star rating in the most recent years, suggests it is struggling to keep pace with other elementary schools in the state. Addressing these challenges, including inconsistent funding and the growing population of economically disadvantaged students, will be crucial for Pomeroy Elementary to improve its overall performance and provide a high-quality education for its students.

Open Quote They offer a pre-k summer class before kids start kindergarten. It was instrumental for my daughter and ended any anxiety before starting kindergarten. She also learned about the school beforehand and met the Principal. The teachers are great. Close Quote

Open Quote Pomeroy Elementary is a wonderful school. Both my sons attend Pomeroy and the sense of community and positive energy the school has is remarkable. The staff is great with communication and making me feel welcome at the school. The Principal, Dr. Driscoll knows every child by name and will listen to any concerns you have. I recommend Pomeroy!
