Summary

Lake Valley Elementary School serves 303 students in grades K–6 in Prescott Valley, within Humboldt Unified District. Its latest SchoolDigger rating is 2 stars, at the 33rd statewide percentile for 2025–26. The central concern is that Lake Valley had the lowest all-grades ELA and math proficiency among the five Humboldt Unified elementary schools shown.

ELA is the clearest weakness: in 2025–26, 29% of Lake Valley students were proficient, compared with 41% statewide and 43% districtwide. The other four district schools averaged 47%, 18 points above Lake Valley. Math was a relative bright spot against the state, but not nearby district peers: Lake Valley’s 34% was 1 point above the state’s 33%, yet 2 points below the district’s 36%. The other four district schools averaged 45%, about 11 points above Lake Valley. Grade 3 and Grade 4 results were below state and district rates in both subjects; Grade 5 math was more encouraging at 41%, 3 points above the state but 4 below the district. Lake Valley’s Grade 5 ELA result is state-suppressed, so it cannot be assessed.

Lake Valley’s SchoolDigger percentile has fallen from 47 in 2015–16 to 33 in 2025–26, despite a small rise from 32 the year before. Grade 5 science also declined, from 35% in 2022–23 to 27% in 2024–25; the latest result was 7 points below the state and 13 below the district. The school’s 2024–25 student–teacher ratio was 12.8, the lowest among the five district schools, whose other ratios averaged 17.7; this lower ratio coincides with lower test results, but does not show that one causes the other. A historical free/reduced-lunch rate was 63% in 2022–23, with no comparable nearby-school figures supplied. SchoolDigger’s statewide ranking for White Students was 7th percentile in 2024–25, compared with 32nd overall, indicating a much lower standing in its measure of how well the school serves that group. My daughter attended a school in Prescott for Kinder. - 1st grade prior to our move to Prescott Valley. While we enjoyed the Prescott school, I have found her education to bloom at Lake Valley. There are no 'gifted' classes at her Prescott school, or many activities. Here, she was placed in an honors program in 2nd grade. They offer Chess Club, Art Club, etc. VERY nice teachers (SO FAR LOL) This yr she will be entering 5th grade, I hope the trend continues!! Close Quote
