Summary

Hardin Elementary School in Redfield, AR, is a small K-5 school within the White Hall School District, serving 224 students and known for its strong academic track record. This school stands out as the highest-performing elementary in its district, consistently earning top ratings over the past decade, though it saw a slight dip to a 4-star rating (70th percentile) in the 2025-2026 school year. Hardin excels in Mathematics, with 54.6% of students proficient—far above the state average of 44.1% and the highest among nearby schools, including those in the higher-ranked Sheridan School District. Its English Language Arts and Reading scores also significantly outpace district and state averages, making it a standout choice for families seeking strong academics.

One of Hardin’s biggest advantages is its low student-teacher ratio of 12.7:1, the lowest among comparable schools in the area. This creates a more personalized learning environment compared to schools like Moody Elementary School (17.3:1) in the same district. Interestingly, Hardin achieves these results despite having a higher percentage of students receiving free/reduced lunch (55.36%) than Moody, suggesting that factors like small class sizes and effective teaching strategies drive its success. The school also outperforms Sheridan Intermediate School and East End Intermediate School in key subjects, showing that a top-tier school can thrive even within a mid-tier district.

While Hardin shines overall, there is one area for improvement: 5th Grade Science, where only 36.8% of students are proficient—below both the district (45.4%) and state (43.8%) averages. This contrasts with strong 3rd Grade Science scores (58.1%), indicating a potential gap to address. Additionally, the school’s spending of about $10,954 per student is notably lower than lower-performing schools like Daisy Bates Elementary School ($16,235), highlighting its efficient use of resources. For parents, Hardin offers a small, focused environment with exceptional math and reading outcomes, though it’s worth monitoring recent slight declines in overall rankings.

Open Quote I went to this school as a child, but I moved back here because it was so highly rated when my son was starting school. I loved it then, and my son loves it now. This is his last year at Hardin, and I couldn't be happier with his elementary experience and preparation for middle school. The teachers and the staff go above and beyond to help these kids, and it shows in all aspects. Not to mention it was one of only three schools in the state to receive the National Blue Ribbon Award for excellence a couple of years ago. Wonderful school! Close Quote
