Summary

Pulaski Heights Elementary School is a K-5 public school in the Hillcrest neighborhood of Little Rock, Arkansas, serving 266 students as part of the Little Rock School District.

This school stands out as a reliable, above-average neighborhood option in a district that ranks in the bottom 30% of the state. Pulaski Heights consistently outperforms the district average by about 15 to 16 percentage points in English, math, and science—a gap that has held steady for at least three years. It currently holds a 3-star rating and ranks in the 65th percentile statewide, placing it in the "good" category. However, its ranking has slipped from a peak of 86th percentile in 2021-2022, which is worth noting. A particularly encouraging sign is the school's recent success in math: after a dip to 33.6% proficiency in 2023-2024, scores jumped to 47.5% the following year, suggesting responsive leadership and effective curriculum adjustments. With about 48% of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch, the school serves a moderately diverse socioeconomic population and appears to add significant value compared to its district peers.

In the local landscape, Pulaski Heights occupies a middle ground. Nearby Forest Park Elementary School is a top-tier 5-star school (95th percentile), while Stephens Elementary ranks in the 1st percentile. Pulaski Heights offers a stable, high-functioning alternative to these extremes. Interestingly, the school spends over $15,000 per student—higher than the national average—but nearby Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Leadership & Language Magnet Academy spends over $27,000 per student with the lowest test scores in the area, showing that spending alone doesn't guarantee results. For parents seeking a solid neighborhood school that consistently delivers above-average outcomes, Pulaski Heights is a strong choice, though its gradual ranking decline over the past five years is something to keep an eye on.

Open Quote I keep up with this school because my niece is the Principal there now. She has wanted to be a Principal for some time. Before becoming an admistrator she was an elementart music teacher. I have watched the school from a distance and have seen subtle and not so subtle changes taking place that have been encouraging to students and staff. I am so proud of Anna and her "ownership" of PHES! Close Quote
