Summary

Pulaski Heights Middle School is a public school in Little Rock, AR, serving 585 students in grades 6-8 as part of the Little Rock School District.

The most defining feature of Pulaski Heights is its exceptional performance in advanced mathematics. In the 2025-2026 school year, 77.5% of students taking the Algebra ATLAS exam were proficient—dramatically higher than the district average of 20.8% and more than double the state average of 36.9%. This puts the school on par with top-performing area charter schools like Estem Junior High Public Charter School (88.5%) and Lisa Academy West Middle School (73.6%). However, the school has a "two-tiered" academic profile: while Algebra scores are elite, proficiency in standard Mathematics (26.1%) and English Language Arts (35.3%) for all grades falls below state averages (44.1% and 39.4%, respectively). This suggests the school is highly effective at accelerating a specific group of students in math, but the broader student body struggles to meet benchmarks in core subjects.

Compared to other district middle schools, Pulaski Heights is a clear standout. It significantly outperforms Mann Magnet Middle School and Dunbar Magnet Middle School in nearly every academic metric, despite not being a magnet school with selective admissions. The school also has a lower student-teacher ratio (14.2:1) than many high-performing charter competitors, offering a more intimate learning environment. Science proficiency (37.3%) is another relative strength, closer to the state average (44%) and far ahead of district peers. While the school's overall state ranking has declined from its peak in 2015-2016, it remains a strong option for families seeking a robust advanced math program within the traditional public school system.

Open Quote The worse mistake I ever made was sending our middle child of 3 kids there. This school is something you see off TV. While there has been a push for parent evolvement and for 25 or so parents that were/are involved I commend you for what you all are trying and willing to do. For the other 1400 parents I want you to know that you aren't doing your part and you're riding off the coattails of a few people. For the 25 parents that are all-in, good luck because this school and it's people will suck you dry(both financially and mentally). A normal day here is kids driving up to school in a stolen car, fights are daily, gang activity is real. Girls getting dragged by their hair by boys( I saw that while visiting one day), daily bulling, drug activity and I'm sure I'm forgetting other negative aspects. My son went from all A's(that's K thru-6th grade) and never getting in trouble and being a well rounded kid to smoking dope, skipping class, smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol. All these things listed actually happened at school and within a 4 month period. As a parent I take full responsibility for not seeing the changes sooner and making adjustments. By the end of the school year my child was broken down to nothing, I didn't even recognize him. We have since changed schools and got to spend the summer in therapy(that cost thousands). He is doing great now and is back to the son I use to know. If you have a good kid I would advise strongly against sending them to this school. It's not worth the risk. Close Quote

Open Quote This school is a joke. They treat your child like cattle. They allow gang activity and bullying to happen right in front of them. My child has only been with this school for 3/4 of the school year and they allowed for my child to be attacked and gang threatened by another student and acted as if it was no big deal. The Principal and Vice principals were extremely defensive and acted as if this situation was my child's fault. If you don't want your child bullied do not send them to this school. Close Quote
