Summary

Redoubt Elementary is a pre-kindergarten through 6th grade public school in Soldotna, AK, serving 321 students as part of the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District. In the 2025–2026 school year, Redoubt Elementary ranked 53rd out of 166 Alaska elementary schools—landing in the 68th percentile with a 3-star rating—and has climbed steadily from a 100th-place finish five years ago, marking its strongest performance since 2018–2019.

What truly sets Redoubt apart is how it compares with nearby schools. It is the highest-ranked traditional public elementary in the Soldotna/Kenai cluster, trailing only Aurora Borealis Charter School (1st) and Soldotna Montessori Charter School (15th) among nine local schools. Redoubt's proficiency rates exceed district and state averages in every tested subject—48.8% in ELA, 46.9% in math, and 50.0% in science—while nearby Soldotna Elementary, just over a mile away, posted just 34.1% in ELA despite serving a similar student population. Even Kalifornsky Beach Elementary, with a comparable poverty rate, trails Redoubt by double digits in reading and math. Notably, Redoubt has improved for four straight years while several neighbors, including Soldotna Elementary and Kalifornsky Beach, have slipped in the rankings.

There are a few things parents should watch. Female students at Redoubt rank in the 77th percentile statewide, while male students rank lower at the 48th percentile, suggesting the school's strong overall standing is driven largely by girls. Sixth-grade math is also a relative soft spot at 38.9% proficiency—well below the school's own 4th and 5th grade math scores—and science results have swung noticeably year to year. Encouragingly, Redoubt's academic gains have continued even as the share of students from economically disadvantaged households rose to 50.5%, a sign that the school's improvement reflects real effectiveness rather than shifting demographics.

Open Quote Don't enroll your children in this school if you can. There are few good teachers within this school. They mainly hire their friends and do very little to help solve any issues that you might have with a teacher because they are all friends with one another. You're better off homeschooling your kid rather than enrolling them in this school. When someone was calling in threats to the schools within this area, this school did not even contact parents to let them know until a day or so after we had heard it in the news. There is so much lack of communication it's ridiculous. Most of the people who work here are just working to collect a pay check and could care less about anyone else but themselves. They don't care about the students are very rude. Do your children a favor and don't enroll them in this school. Close Quote
