Summary

Tahoma Senior High School is a large, highly-regarded public high school serving grades 9-12 and approximately 2,919 students in Maple Valley, Washington, as part of the top-tier Tahoma School District.

The school consistently delivers strong academic results, with a 93.4% graduation rate and English proficiency far exceeding the state average. It ranks in the 87th percentile statewide and has shown remarkable, steady improvement over the past decade. A standout strength is its exceptional performance with African American students, ranking in the state's top 1-2%. While math proficiency is above average, it is an area for growth compared to top peers like Liberty Senior High School. The school operates very efficiently, spending less per student than many nearby schools while achieving better overall outcomes.

Tahoma stands out in a region with highly variable school quality. It significantly outperforms many neighboring schools in the Kent School District, such as Kent-Meridian High School and Auburn Mountainview High School, particularly in graduation rates and consistent ranking. The school's scale, district support, and effective teaching practices combine to create what is known as the "Tahoma Advantage," though support for special education students remains an identified opportunity for improvement.

Open Quote The teacher's are WONDERFUL. My only complaint would be the Counseling office and lack of professionalism. I hear this is a reoccurring problem through schools across the country. Considering the shape this country is, we can attribute part of the problem to this on going issue. Close Quote
