Summary:

Maple Valley, Washington, has seven public schools serving elementary and high school students: six elementary schools and one high school, all part of the highly rated Tahoma School District, which ranks among Washington’s top districts. Together, these schools enroll about 7,091 students, and all reported assessment results are above Washington state averages, although performance varies among schools.

Cedar River Elementary is the strongest overall elementary school, ranking 53rd statewide and placing in the 95th percentile. It leads the elementary schools in math, science, and near-top ELA performance, with especially strong fourth-grade results. Rock Creek Elementary offers the best combination of strong performance and recent improvement, exceeding district averages in every subject. Lake Wilderness Elementary is also highly ranked and stands out for science and math. Glacier Park Elementary and Tahoma Elementary remain above state averages but have more mixed results, including recent declines or notable grade-level weaknesses.

Shadow Lake Elementary has the lowest current elementary ranking, but its science proficiency improved substantially, rising more than 14 points in one year. Its third-grade results remain an area to watch. At the secondary level, Tahoma Senior High School ranks 40th statewide and has excellent completion outcomes, including a 93.4% graduation rate and a 4.4% dropout rate. Its ELA performance is outstanding, while math and science trail district averages but remain above state results. Across the area, science is the strongest improving elementary subject, while ELA has declined modestly at several schools.
