Summary

Tyee Middle School is a top-ranked public school serving about 1,000 students in grades 6-8 within the highly-regarded Bellevue School District.

The school consistently achieves exceptional academic results, ranking in the top 2-3% of all Washington middle schools for nearly a decade, with student proficiency rates in English, math, and science that are significantly higher than both district and state averages. What truly sets Tyee apart is its remarkable effectiveness with diverse student groups; for example, its program for English Language Learners is ranked #1 in the state, and it also achieves top-tier results for students from lower-income families. This demonstrates a commitment to excellence that benefits all learners.

When compared to other schools, Tyee's performance is notable for its consistency and efficiency. It maintains similarly high achievement across all three grade levels and achieves these elite outcomes with moderate per-student spending compared to some district peers like Highland Middle School. While other top regional schools like Northstar Middle School in the Lake Washington School District or Pine Lake Middle School in the Issaquah School District show comparable excellence, Tyee does so while serving a more socioeconomically diverse student population.

Open Quote Best school that I have ever attended. People don't laugh at me and call me a nerd as they used to when I constantly spewed facts. Granted, a few of the students can be crass and rumbustious, but teachers rarely have any cause to upbraid students for anything. Provides a great learning environment. Close Quote
