Summary

Groveton Elementary is a public magnet elementary school located in Alexandria, Virginia, serving grades PK-6 with a total enrollment of 790 students. The school is part of the Fairfax County Public Schools district, which is ranked 45 out of 129 school districts in Virginia and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Despite being part of a highly-ranked district, Groveton Elementary has consistently ranked in the bottom 10-15% of Virginia elementary schools over the past 10 years, with a 1-star or 0-star rating from SchoolDigger. The school struggles across various student subgroups, with rankings for female, male, Hispanic, and English Language Learner students all in the bottom 25-30% of Virginia elementary schools. Even its highest-performing subgroup, white students, only ranks in the top 25-30% of Virginia elementary schools. Additionally, Groveton Elementary has had high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 12.8% to 19.3% over the past few years, which is significantly higher than the state and district averages.

Groveton Elementary's performance lags behind both the Fairfax County and state averages, and it is underperforming compared to nearby schools like Clermont Elementary and Bush Hill Elementary, which have much higher statewide rankings, proficiency rates, and lower chronic absenteeism rates. Despite the school's per-student spending being on par with the district and state averages, and its student-teacher ratio being similar to nearby schools, Groveton Elementary continues to face significant challenges in providing a high-quality education to its students.

Open Quote Groveton it is a community-based school, the administration & staff are very attentive and make every effort to communicate & collaborate on your childs' needs academically. Groveton offers the Level III Advanced Academic Program (AAP) & have a resident AAP teacher. Top rated, the administration has fostered a culture of caring and devotion to their children. I would not be fooled by the numbers offered by anyone! They do not offer a true evaluation for Groveton's Academic Achievement Levels for individual growth. But if numbers are the only tool you use to evaluate a school... Vantage Kingsbrooke evaluation numbers are higher then the national average. Our children attend Groveton Elementary School and we love our school and staff! Close Quote
