Summary

Clermont Elementary is a PK-6 school in Alexandria, VA, serving 549 students as part of Fairfax County Public Schools. It holds a 4-star rating and ranks 162nd out of 1,111 Virginia elementary schools, placing it in the top 15% statewide and making it a standout performer in its immediate area.

Academic proficiency at Clermont consistently outpaces both its district and the state across nearly every grade and subject. For example, 4th-grade math proficiency is 94%, compared to 78.7% for the district and 73.3% for the state. This success extends to its neighbors: Clermont outperforms nearby Fairfax County schools like Mount Eagle Elementary and Groveton Elementary by wide margins, and also tops nearby Alexandria City Public Schools such as Patrick Henry K-8 School and James K. Polk Elementary. Notably, Clermont achieves these results while spending less per student ($11,128) and maintaining a higher student-teacher ratio (15.9) than nearby schools, reflecting highly efficient use of resources.

Clermont also excels in attendance, with a chronic absenteeism rate of just 5.3% compared to 14.8% statewide. Subgroup outcomes are strong, with particularly impressive results for students with disabilities (82nd percentile) and low-income students (70th percentile, a major jump from the prior year). The only relative soft spot is upper-elementary math, where 5th- and 6th-grade proficiency, while still above state averages, dips compared to the school's own 3rd- and 4th-grade math scores. Overall, Clermont's combination of high achievement, strong attendance, and efficient spending makes it a compelling option for families in the area.

Open Quote My children both attended Clermont and enjoyed a well-rounded education with caring and dedicated teachers. I am now on staff at Clermont and find it to be a place where I am encouraged to be creative, accountable, and always student-centered. I have taught in many schools in my long career, and this is one of the best. The focus is on the whole child. Technology, rigor, and 21st century skills are integrated throughout the curriculum. There is a great emphasis on character development. Children are encouraged to participate in instrumental music, and every child receives instruction in the fine arts and foreign language (Chinese). We work to meet each child where he/she is and take them as far as they wish to go. The hugely supportive community makes our mission possible. As a community of stakeholders, we can do anything! Open Quote We are moving our child to another school next year. The class sizes are too large. The county has cut the teaching assistants. It makes for a chaotic, learning environment. Due to lack of appropriate supervision, injuries and bullying are a problem. The county guidelines for discipline are loosely enforced by the administration. The extreme focus on SOLs and memorizing facts is unfortunate. Close Quote

Open Quote As you can see this Elementary school is rated #14 in the state out of over 1000 schools. Not only does this school provide a great education, but we have lived in the neighborhood in which this school is located and it is one of the best locations in the DC area with lots of really nice families and children. Secluded, safe and full of young working professionals who put a premium on raising their children in a great community/family environment. Close Quote
