Summary

Mallard Creek High School is a public high school in Charlotte, North Carolina, serving 2,099 students in grades 9-12. The school is part of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools district, which is ranked 119 out of 242 districts in the state and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Despite its large student population, Mallard Creek High School has seen a concerning decline in its academic performance over the years. The school's statewide ranking has dropped from a high of 107 out of 507 North Carolina high schools in 2015-2016 to 413 out of 641 in 2024-2025, indicating a steady decline in its overall performance. Additionally, the school's proficiency rates on End-of-Course (EOC) exams are consistently lower than the district and state averages, with only 41.1% proficiency in Biology, 54.4% in English II, 31.4% in Math I, and 54.1% in Math III.

Interestingly, Mallard Creek High School's performance varies significantly across different student subgroups. While the school ranks highly for English Language Learner students and Homeless students, it struggles with Special Education students and Gifted and Talented students. This disparity in subgroup performance suggests that the school may need to implement more targeted interventions to address the needs of its diverse student population. Compared to nearby schools, such as North Mecklenburg High School and Char Eng Early College-UNCC, Mallard Creek High School's performance is generally lower, with higher proficiency rates, graduation rates, and statewide rankings at these other institutions.
