Open Quote This school is beyond terrible! We finally made the move to private school and couldn’t be happier. Both of our kids say their worst day at Covenant Christian is better than their best day at Vickery Creek Elementary and Vickery Creek Middle.

VCMS has a HUGE bullying problem, kids are entitled and snobbish, teachers are overwhelmed, curriculum is silly and hard to follow. Administration is largely unreachable and is not knowledgeable about what’s going on in the classroom. Vaping in the bathrooms is ignored, racism toward African American kids rampant (this made headlines during 2019/2020 school year and is easily Googled), porn is regularly viewed on busses. I never expected all kids to be caught and disciplined for every infraction, but these areas are simply out of control. (My son had an African American friend who was called the “n” word daily. His family moved to a new school district before he could go to West. This young man’s older brother attended West and the family swore they wouldn’t put the younger son through that experience. Racism. Is. A. Big. Problem.)

They make a big deal out of 8th graders taking 10th grade science and high school math and Spanish. (Parents aren’t given a choice, either. My child was never in advanced courses but was somehow selected for 10th grade science.) The 10th science requires students to pass an EOC (end of course) test in order to receive high school credit. The 10th grade material is not age appropriate for most kids and the online textbook is actually an 8th grade text...do you see the MAJOR problem here?! We were sweating the EOC test all year and after all was said & done, they curved the grade 20 points!!! So needing to “pass” the EOC is rubbish...you can master a 50 of the material and be deemed “proficient“ enough to have high school credit and never take earth science again. VCMS’s concern is for style over substance. Don’t be snowed by the herd mentality or other parents who have their heads in the sand. If your child is very bright and can exist in a good peer bubble, you may have a slightly better experience. If you enjoy having no textbooks, big class sizes, and Power Point teaching, this is the place for you, even though studies prove these “methods“ to be inferior. Be very involved and extremely nosy if your attends this school. Close Quote
