Summary

Witter Ranch Elementary is a public K-5 school serving 621 students in Sacramento's Natomas Unified School District, which has seen a notable increase in the number of students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds in recent years.

Academically, the school's overall state ranking has declined, but it performs significantly better than several nearby schools with similar challenges, such as American Lakes and Bannon Creek. The school shows particular strengths in supporting special education students and English language learners. However, there is a concerning and widening performance gap between male and female students, with boys' scores falling sharply. Chronic absenteeism, while improved from pandemic highs, remains an issue at 23.6%, though it is lower than at some comparable schools in the area.

Compared to higher-performing schools in the same district like Natomas Pacific Pathways Prep Elementary and Heron, Witter Ranch serves a student population with greater economic needs. The school spends more per student than most neighboring schools. Key areas for attention include supporting male students and improving fifth-grade science scores, while leveraging the school's demonstrated success with special education to benefit other groups.

Open Quote Our child is in 4th grade, and has attended Witter Ranch since Kindergarten. His teachers are all fantastic. His kindergarten teacher was so loving and kind and great with the children. She instilled a feeling of happiness for learning in the child that is carrying him through life. It's a shame the principal is not up to the same high standards as the teacher. She has no social skills. She is rude to the children when speaking to them. Fortunately that isn't often. Close Quote
