Summary:

95833 has 11 listed schools—eight elementary, one middle, one high school and one alternative school—with test results for all 11 in 2024–2025 and nine in 2025–2026. In the latest results, those nine averaged 32% in English language arts (ELA), 25% in math and 20% in science, compared with state averages of 49%, 38% and 36%. Math was closest to the state, but averages were below state results in every subject. The most important takeaway is that results vary widely across the area: its schools are neither uniformly strong nor uniformly weak.

In 2025–2026, Leroy Greene Academy led ELA at 50%, about level with the state and 5 percentage points ahead of Hazel Strauch Elementary. Larry G. Meeks Academy led math at 39%, about 1 point above the state, and science at 31%, though still 5 points below the state. At the other end, American Lakes had the lowest ELA result (9.8%), just below Bannon Creek (10.0%); Bannon was lowest in math (6.8%) and science (6%). The leaders differed by year: Hazel Strauch topped ELA and math in 2024–2025, while Two Rivers Elementary led science.

Across the nine schools with results in both years, average scores rose slightly in ELA and by about 1 percentage point in math and science; because state results rose faster in ELA and science, the schools collectively edged closer to the state in math but fell further behind in the other subjects. Individual paths differed: Jefferson improved in all three subjects, while Two Rivers declined in all three. SchoolDigger’s statewide percentile ranking also rose for Jefferson, from 14 in 2023–2024 to 29 in 2025–2026, while Two Rivers’ fell from 52 to 37. As context, free/reduced lunch eligible figures for 2024–2025 ranged from 57% at Two Rivers to 93% at Rio Tierra Junior High; Larry G. Meeks was at 76%. Chronic absenteeism exceeded the state’s 18% rate at all nine schools, ranging from 21% at Larry G. Meeks to 49% at Hazel Strauch. Since schools serve different grade spans, all-grade results are not perfectly like-for-like.
