Stockbridge Middle in the small community of Stockbridge, WI, is a small public middle school serving grades 6–8 with 40 students, part of the Stockbridge School District. The district ranks 312th of 432 in Wisconsin, and the school ranks 523rd of 643 middle schools in 2025–2026 (19th percentile, 1 star). After ranking 98th of 613 (84th percentile, 4 stars) in 2020–2021, it fell to 542nd of 641 (15th percentile, 1 star) in 2023–2024; the last three years have been in the 15th, 23rd, and 19th percentiles. That is a sustained decline, not a one-year dip.

Chilton Middle, 6.93 miles away, also spends less and has higher poverty but outperformed it in most 2025–2026 subjects except 6th-grade math. On the 2025–2026 Forward Exam, ELA proficiency was 30% in 6th grade, 45.45% in 7th, and 35% in 8th—all below state. Math was 60% in 6th grade, a bright spot, but only 9.09% in 7th and 40% in 8th. Social studies was 45% and science 30%, below state rates of 64.63% and 51.86%. Chronic absenteeism was 13.2%, below the state’s 17.3% but above the district’s 8.7%; the 3.8% dropout rate was higher than the district’s 2.5% and state’s 1.1%, though tiny enrollment makes it fragile. Subgroup rankings are mostly low: male students 11th percentile, female students 29th, special education students 13th, and low-income students 63rd in 2020–2021, the only year available. Pockets of strength appear, but they are not sustained across grades and subjects.
