South High

South High is a public high school located in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, serving grades 9-12 with a total enrollment of 1,123 students. Unfortunately, the school consistently ranks in the bottom half of Wisconsin high schools, performing significantly below the state and district averages on academic measures.

South High's academic performance, as measured by proficiency rates on state assessments, is particularly low in mathematics, with only 28.51% of 10th-grade students proficient or better, compared to 42.73% statewide. The school's performance is also weak for certain student subgroups, such as Multi-racial students, Special Education students, and Low Socio-Economic Status students, who rank in the bottom 20% of their respective subgroups in the state. Additionally, South High has a high chronic absenteeism rate, ranging from 17.7% to 32.8% over the past few years, which is significantly higher than the state and district averages.

Interestingly, within the Sheboygan Area School District, North High performs significantly better than South High, ranking much higher (221 out of 431 schools in 2024-2025) and having higher proficiency rates, graduation rates, and lower chronic absenteeism. Additionally, the two charter schools in the district, George D. Warriner High School for Personalized Learning and Etude High, also outperform South High in many metrics, despite serving similar student populations. Comparing to schools outside the district, Howards Grove High and Oostburg High, which are in neighboring districts, significantly outperform South High across all academic and performance measures.
