Summary

Kickapoo Elementary is a small rural PK–5 school in Viola, WI, serving 204 students in the Kickapoo Area School District. Recent results show improvement: after ranking in the bottom quartile in 2022–23 and 2023–24 (22nd–23rd percentile, 1 star), it rose to 40th percentile in 2024–25 and 39th percentile in 2025–26 (2 stars). Chronic absenteeism was 8.0%, better than the district’s 12.7% and state’s 17.3%. Compared with nearby schools, Kickapoo’s 2025–26 rank percentile of 39 is below Richland Center Intermediate School, Cashton Elementary, Westby Elementary, Viroqua Elementary, Viroqua Area Montessori School, North Crawford Elementary, and La Farge Elementary, but above Norwalk-Ontario-Wilton Elementary and Kickapoo Valley Forest School. Its free/reduced lunch rate is higher than most nearby schools, making near-state ELA, science, and social studies results more notable. Attendance is better than the state, district, and several peers, though a few nearby schools have even lower chronic absenteeism.
