Burbank Elementary is a PK–8 Milwaukee School District school with 552 students at 6035 W Adler St, a high-poverty neighborhood on Milwaukee’s west side near Wauwatosa and West Allis.

Statewide, Burbank has ranked in the bottom of Wisconsin schools for a decade, never escaping the bottom ~11% and sliding into the bottom 2–6% over the last four years. On the 2025–2026 Forward Exam, average proficiency was roughly 12% in ELA and 11% in math, compared with about 26%/21% for the Milwaukee School District and 54%/54% statewide. It trails the district in every tested grade and subject. Nearby schools show a stark contrast: Woodlands School (0.75 mi, 18.5% low-income) and Wauwatosa School District schools such as Wilson Elementary and Wauwatosa STEM post much higher proficiency, while district peers Hawley Environmental School, Neeskara Elementary, and Story Elementary are also near the bottom.

The school’s relative strengths include chronic absenteeism at 39.7% in 2024–2025 — better than the Milwaukee School District (46.2%) and Story Elementary (42.5%) but still over twice Wisconsin’s 17.3% — and dropout rates at or below state levels. Grade 8 science (29.63%) beats the district, and English Language Learners improved from the 4th to 16th percentile; third-grade reading also rose to 11.36%. The biggest concern is that low-income students, about 84% of enrollment, have ranked at the 1st percentile three years running. Per-pupil spending rose 37% to $19,532 while the student-teacher ratio climbed to 16.7:1, yet ELA proficiency drifted down. Families should weigh these mixed signals, including nearby high-poverty West Allis-West Milwaukee School District schools with lower absenteeism.
