Summary

Benjamin Franklin Elementary is a standout K-5 public school serving 325 students in Vancouver, WA, consistently ranking among the top schools in the state despite being part of the Vancouver School District, which has an overall lower performance ranking.

The school's academic results are exceptional, with over 70% of students proficient in English, math, and science—a rate that is roughly 30 points higher than the district average. This performance gap is the largest among nearby schools. For example, while Lake Shore Elementary also performs well, Fruit Valley Elementary and Washington Elementary struggle significantly. Benjamin Franklin achieves these top-tier results while effectively supporting all student groups, including those in special education and from low-income families, often earning 5-star ratings for these subgroups.

Notably, the school has shown a steady, years-long improvement to reach its current 4-star rating and does more with comparable resources, spending less per student than several lower-performing neighbors like Lincoln Elementary. Its strength in science is particularly remarkable. The dramatic difference in quality between Benjamin Franklin and other very close schools, such as Lincoln Elementary just half a mile away, highlights how school quality can vary greatly within the same community.

Open Quote I went to Franklin as an elementary school student from Pre-K through 5th grade in Franklin's Mandarin immersion, and to this very day, I still use the skills I have learned there. Every single teacher was wonderful, especially Hu Lao Shi who taught me for 2 years. Mandarin is spoken by a large majority of people in this world, and it is important to learn it. Plus, Franklin teaches you to not only speak and listen, but read & write too. Therefore, we graduate Franklin as bilinguals well-versed in the Mandarin language. The facility was clean and all the staff were respectful and kind. I loved my time there and would encourage more people to join that school! Close Quote
