Summary

Chief Kanim Middle School is a well-regarded public school serving about 520 students in grades 6 through 8 in Fall City, operating within the highly-ranked Snoqualmie Valley School District.

The school consistently earns high marks, with student test scores in English, Math, and Science significantly above the state average, maintaining a 5-star rating for over a decade. It's important for parents to know that while Chief Kanim is a top-tier school statewide, it operates in an exceptionally competitive region surrounded by other elite schools like Beaver Lake Middle School and Evergreen Middle School. Within its own district, it performs very well but trails its sister school, Snoqualmie Middle School, in academic proficiency. A notable strength is the school's exceptional success with Hispanic students, where it ranks among the very best in Washington.

Recent trends show a slight dip in its statewide ranking, and science scores are an area where the school lags behind both the district average and some nearby peers. Performance varies by grade, with 8th grade scores generally lower than 6th and 7th. Despite having a lower per-student budget than some neighboring schools in wealthier districts like Lake Washington and Issaquah, Chief Kanim delivers strong academic results, suggesting efficient use of its resources.

Open Quote I used to attend CKMS, and unfortunately this is not a school I would recommend to anyone. I was treated extremely disrespectfully, and my parents pulled me out of one of my classes because the teacher was so rude. Students are not treated with respect by any member of staff except a few teachers. Andrea Lim, Alison Means, Chris Blake, were amazing teachers but most teachers were very harsh and rude towards students, and parents frequently met with teachers to discuss why their students were being treated this way. This school does not feel like a safe, caring environment at all. I'm sad to say that I couldn't wait for my last day at this school because my experience was 95% horrible. Some teachers are nearly impossible to get an A with, and they do not teach well at all. Close Quote
