Summary

Aki Kurose Middle School is a public school in Seattle serving grades 6–8, with 817 students in the Seattle School District No. 1. The school ranks in the 48th statewide percentile for 2025–26, while its district ranks in the 81st percentile. This makes Aki Kurose’s results more moderate than the district’s overall performance and places the school near the middle of the broader local comparison.

In 2025–26, 45.54% of students met standards in English language arts, 36.51% in math, and 41.74% in science. These results were approximately 23 percentage points below district averages in all three subjects. Aki Kurose also trailed the other Seattle middle schools in this comparison: Mercer International Middle School, Washington Middle School, and David T. Denny International Middle School. Its strongest academic bright spot is science, which improved from 23.63% proficiency in 2022–23 to 41.74% in 2025–26. Sixth-grade math is the clearest internal weakness at 29.58%, compared with 41.02% in seventh grade and 40.09% in eighth grade.

Aki Kurose performs better than several nearby schools, including Dimmitt Middle School, Cascade Middle School, Showalter Middle School, and Glacier Middle School, but it remains behind higher-performing schools such as Vera Risdon Middle School, Rainier Prep, and Islander Middle School. Its statewide rank has improved substantially since 2020–21, despite a recent decline from the 55th to the 48th percentile. Key priorities are strengthening sixth-grade and overall math, rebuilding ELA momentum, sustaining science gains, and improving outcomes for student groups whose subgroup rankings are currently low, including students from low-income households, students receiving special education services, and students experiencing homelessness.

Open Quote Aki is a bad school. I go there and i was placed in a class that was way to easy for me. Also, i am an EXCELLENT writter and i havent been put in a class that accompany's my writting criteria. Now my parents moved me all the way to Renton just to abandone the school with a population of only 502 students. This school needs HELP way beyond anything we can do, people write dirty thing on the wall that contain horrible grammar and profanity. I wish i never been to the school, my grade dropped from a A+ to a C- at that school and they didnt even care. I admit this though, the students at the school care deeply about eachother.
