Summary

Aki Kurose Middle School is a public school in Seattle's Rainier Valley serving about 820 students in grades 6-8, and it has shown remarkable improvement, climbing from a 1-star to a 3-star state rating over the past four years.

This school is on a strong upward trend, improving its statewide ranking significantly more than many nearby schools like Washington Middle School or David T. Denny International Middle School. It performs exceptionally well in some areas, such as with its English Language Learner students and in science, where scores have risen sharply. However, the school faces a major challenge with significant differences in achievement between different groups of students, which is a key area for continued focus. Compared to Islander Middle School on Mercer Island, the performance gap highlights how factors beyond a school's control can influence outcomes.

An interesting comparison is with two schools very close by: Mercer International Middle School and the charter school Rainier Prep. All three serve student populations with similar economic needs, yet they have different results, suggesting that instructional models, school culture, or how resources are used can make a big difference. Aki Kurose spends more per student than some higher-performing peers, indicating that how money is used is as important as how much is available. Overall, Aki Kurose is a school in Seattle School District No. 1 that is clearly getting better and has specific strengths, but must ensure its impressive growth benefits every student equally.

Open Quote Aki is a bad school. I go there and i was placed in a class that was way to easy for me. Also, i am an EXCELLENT writter and i havent been put in a class that accompany's my writting criteria. Now my parents moved me all the way to Renton just to abandone the school with a population of only 502 students. This school needs HELP way beyond anything we can do, people write dirty thing on the wall that contain horrible grammar and profanity. I wish i never been to the school, my grade dropped from a A+ to a C- at that school and they didnt even care. I admit this though, the students at the school care deeply about eachother.
