Summary

Lafayette Elementary School is a well-regarded public elementary school (PK-5) serving 532 students in Seattle's West Seattle neighborhood, operating within the Seattle School District No. 1 and consistently earning a 4-star rating.

Academically, Lafayette is a strong performer, with student test scores exceeding both district and state averages in all core subjects; its science program is a particular standout, with proficiency rates far above the state average. The school achieves these results efficiently, spending less per student than many neighboring schools while maintaining a student-teacher ratio similar to other high-performing schools in the area. It's important to note that performance across West Seattle varies, and while Lafayette is among the top tier, it trails the very highest performers like Genesee Hill Elementary and Alki Elementary in some subjects, yet outperforms others such as West Seattle Elementary School and Sanislo Elementary School.

The school has shown notable success with specific student groups, such as Hispanic students and female students, who have ranked very highly. However, support for some subgroups, like special education students, has shown more variability from year to year. Lafayette's grade-level performance has interesting patterns, with exceptional strength in 3rd grade and some dips in 4th and 5th grades that differ from the more consistent growth seen at some peer schools. Overall, Lafayette represents a stable, high-quality choice that delivers strong academic outcomes with efficient use of resources.

Open Quote My two children love Lafayette. We had considered going to the APP school, but when we compared pros/cons we just couldn't justify leaving a school with so many resources and opportunities for our children. Although we have undergone some changes in leadership recently, the strength's of the school remain. Strong parent involvement, dedicated teachers and resources to hep our children succeed.
